German chancellor defends Afghanistan mission

This article discusses German Chancellor’s Angela Merkel’s insistence that Germany remain committed to fighting the war in Afghanistan. The recent deaths of seven German soldiers has increased pressure within Germany to withdraw from the region. Merkel said that pulling out would be “irresponsible” and leave the country in shambles.
Within Germany there have been many people, especially from the left, who have been calling for the withdrawal. The recent deaths of these seven German soldiers have only added to the fire. However, I agree with Chancellor Merkel that pulling out now would not make a lot of sense. Germany has been in Afghanistan since 2002 and I believe simply abandoning ship would not have many positive benefits for the already tumultuous region. Though many mistakes have been along the way it not is fair to the Afghan people, to suddenly leave. Only once stability is restored in the region should Germany withdraw all their troops
