A recent string of attacks on a Turkish consulate and a Turkish culture club in the city of Münster are believed to have been carried out by individuals of Kurdish background. This article mentions some of the tensions between Kurds and Turks living in Turkey which continues to be the subject of international concern from human rights groups.
While xenophobic attacks against minority ethnic groups in Germany have received wide media coverage in the past decades, this article makes us consider the fact that attacks also occur between different minority groups as well. The German government seeks to promote the integration of immigrants into German society and foster feelings of community with locals, but the immigrant population itself is not a homogenous group. Rather, ethnic tensions also exist within the immigrant population, which further complicates issues of integration.
